  For as long as I can remember (until maybe 3 years ago) my family would ALWAYS come to Nancy's farms (rain or shine, except for one year when the crop was bad) to pick and cut down our Christmas tree ... we would spend hours it seemed sometimes picking out the perfect tree and then waiting as my dad would cut it down ... Timber ... Then we would get home and laugh as my mom would try to figure out how to get it to stand up straight.
  Best family tradition EVER and even if I have to go alone starting next year (my sister Lauren lives too far and the rest of my family has gone plastic) and after this year going to the tree lot down the street and having a tree that doesn't smell its a tradition I am going back :)

  In past years, Nancy's Ranch was a "u-pick" Christmas Tree farm. This year, perhaps due to the drought or other business factors, Nancy's ranch has morphed into a simple (albeit large) tree lot. For those still interested in cutting down a local tree, they recommend the Santa Paula Christmas Tree Farm. While we found a nice, water-preserved Fraser fir at Nancy's this year, I do miss the (cheaper and more fun) self-cut option, so we may try Santa Paula's farm next year. :-)
